Hard to put down, Becca and Nicks story draws you in from the get-go. Becca seeks out Nick Rixey at a tattoo parlour to help find her brother who has gone missing. Rixey is ex-military dealing with a dishonourable discharge and trying to get his shot to bits life back on track. He doesn't need the additional complication of a beautiful woman with curves in all the right places to distract him but she's in danger and he won't let her deal with her problem alone. Besides, he is somehow involved too.
Laura Kaye unravels this story brilliantly. A clever plot filled with tension and suspense conveys the themes of loyalty and comraderery with finesse throughout its pages. The bond between Rixey and his fellow military friends is strained but their experiences together in the field is the glue that holds them together as they begin to heal the deep seated wounds of the past and help Becca find her brother. The introduction of the puppy into the story which also extends the ideas of loyalty and commitment and adds a bit of an 'awww' factor was a great touch. Not to mention some intense scenes, which take your breath away and bring tears to your eyes. Two of the many had something to do with a guitar. And that's all I'm going to say about that. Read it!
The heat between Becca and Rixey flares from the first few pages the flames licking higher and hotter as the book progresses. I'm no stranger to Laura Kaye's books. When this author writes sex, it's edgy and scorching hot! This book is no different. There's not much left unsaid and that's the way I like my romance. Rixey's my new book boyfriend!
Hard As It Gets is the first of the Hard Ink series. I can't wait to read the next instalment, Hard As You Can.
